gestalt packaging: acorn flour
These containers are designed to hold acorn flour which is ground from hand-selected, leached, and roasted acorns. This laborious process produces a nutritious flour with high protein content from an otherwise inedible nut. The height and width of the container bases and caps are consistent with the relative dimensions of real acorns. An abstracted acorn silhouette flows across multiple panels of the hexagonal prism and are printed on a wood veneer as an ode to the acorn-producing oak tree. The panels of the hexagonal prism create the faces for typographical information. This combination of materiality, figure-ground imagery, and relative dimension helps enforce gestalt principles that reinforce the three-dimensional form of the acorn itself. Form, format/structure, typography and color are conceptually and visually unified across the multiple pieces.
