The rubberband
In my first graphic design piece, I explored the design process to find the essence of the rubberband through mind-mapping, brainstorming, research, object exploration, image making, narrative writing, and attaching meaning to a narrative. The negative image of the rubberbands and type was created with spray paint . The vertical type is the genotype of a strain of insulin receptor mutant that my lab studied during my previous life as biologist. We used rubberbands to bind and separate strain vials of Drosophila melanogaster in our quest to unlock the mysteries of the genetics of aging. All the type was created with liquid latex which was removed after spray painting.
